YouTube also has a really cool series called “Behind The Vinyl,” where legends like Randy Bachman and Lou Gramm sit and talk while the original tracks play behind them. This one really took me back because hearing these isolated bass and drum tracks from the Rust In Peace era is literally like sitting back in the control room at Rumbo Recorders with Mike Clink and Nick Menza reviewing takes together.
A few fun details for my fellow gear heads and metal historians:
🎸 Jackson basses used:
• Original Grover Jackson 1986 Quicksilver 4-string
• 1988 red 4-string with ebony fingerboard (later painted black for the Rust In Peace tour in 1990)
🎵 On “Hangar 18,” the first half of the song had the E string tuned down to D. For the second half, we punched back in and tuned it up to E — which eventually led to creating the original 5-string bass later that year for touring in 1990.
⚡ Gear used:
• Rotosound Swing Bass strings (.45, .65, .80, .105)
• GK 800RB head
• Two Hartke 4x10 cabinets with aluminum speakers

🤘🏻 R.I.P. Remembering Kirk Arrington 🤘🏻
Kirk Arrington was truly one of the great heavy metal drummers of his era and an absolute powerhouse during his years with Metal Church. From the opening drum riffs of “Metal Church” to the crushing precision and groove he brought to albums like The Dark, Blessing in Disguise, and The Human Factor, Kirk helped define a sound and style that inspired generations of metal drummers and fans alike.
His playing was aggressive, technical, creative, and unmistakably his own — a driving force behind some of the most underrated and iconic metal records of the 1980s and beyond.
Crank it loud today and remember the creative beast he was. ⚡
